Discover Christmas Day Seven

Where did the tradition of caroling come from?

The word "carol" comes from the French word that means "to dance in a circle". In the early 13th century, a friar named Francis of Assisi introduced carols as part of a Christmas worship service. He encouraged the people to sing their praise to God for the gift of His Son. He told them to sing joyfully songs that told of he birth of Jesus.
During the 19th century, caroling in groups became popular in America and England. Today we sing Christmas carols at church and at homes through out the Christmas season to feel the Spirit of God touch our hearts and remind us of the miraculous birth and life of our Savior. " My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts" (Isaiah 65:14) None of my boys like to sing so we won't be caroling but we made a hymn book and fudge to share with friends. Then we listened to Christmas music while we decorated our tree.
