Why are red, green, and white the colors of Christmas?
Green represents eternal life. Just as the evergreen tree survives and holds its color through the long winter months, those who believe in Jesus, " shall not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16) Green tells us that God lives, and we can too, through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Red reminds us that it is through the blood that Jesus shed for us that we can be with God again. He promises us that because of his atonement, we can repent and be made clean again.
White is a symbol of purity. Jesus led a perfect, sinless life. Through his sacrifice, our lives can become pure again too.
Yellow is the color of the Star of Bethlehem, that beautiful symbol of Christ's birth!
" And lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it come and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy." (Mathew 2:9-10)
